The Solution: Secure Connectivity from Bougainville to AWS Cloud

Our solution integrates cutting-edge cloud and networking technologies to provide secure access to government applications over Starlink satellite internet.

Starlink Satellite Internet – Providing connectivity to government offices across Bougainville.

Cloudcode VPN Gateway (strongSwan) – Establishing encrypted IKEv2/IPsec VPN tunnels between remote government offices and our AWS-hosted infrastructure.

Dedicated Static Public IP – Providing a consistent, secure egress IP address for accessing RAIS applications.

AWS Global Accelerator – Leveraging AWS’s global network to improve application connectivity, performance and availability.

AWS Shield & Web Application Firewall (WAF) – Adding enterprise-grade protection against DDoS attacks and malicious web traffic.

AWS Application Load Balancer (ALB) – Distributing application traffic securely across backend services.

Advanced Network Security – Using encrypted tunnels, traffic filtering, NAT and controlled routing to protect government communications.

Overcoming Connectivity Challenges

One of the key challenges with Starlink connectivity is Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT), which prevents customers from relying on a dedicated public IP address at their remote locations. Cloudcode addressed this challenge by engineering a secure VPN architecture that routes RAIS application traffic through our AWS infrastructure using a dedicated static public IP address. This enables government offices to securely access critical applications while maintaining consistent network identity and centralized security controls.
